The Fandub Database (FanDubDB or F.D.B. for short) is a wiki hosted on Fandom dedicated to offering information about fanmade dubs of TV shows, films, and video games. The purpose of it was to create a convenient place for people who wanted to make fictional dubs for television shows, including ficitonal tv shows, as well as fictional movies and other fantasy stuff.
It has changed drastically over time and eventually gained over 30,000 articles and an active community of fandub enthusiasts.
History[]
The wiki was originally founded under the name I.E.P. Fanon Wiki on February 12, 2018 by BovineBonita (better known by her current Fandom name, CrypticalFiery, and originally under the name PaletteReviews). As of August 2018, FayyadAllhassan123 (better known as SpongeBobDubs2096) started to adopt the wiki. DextersLaboratory (better known as Ritter Louie227) was also the administrator of the wiki. The first page created was of a fanmade TV series Nick and Jr., based on the former Nick Jr. mascots. Although the purpose of the wiki had always been about fictional dubbing, the main goal was to create any international versions of a piece of media, which included subtitled versions and the like. By May 2022, the wiki's staff had comprised of the users AniShalev, WoeisWingbat and SuperSunshiiine. The former admins were Makena Abena, MaxT20 and Luciano Existe, who have been inactive since 2021.
On April 26, 2020, FayyadAllhassan123 changed the name of the wiki from I.E.P. Fanon Wiki to Fanmade Dubbings Wiki. On May 10, 2022, WoeisWingbat decided the name change to The Fandub Database, to match the name of The Dubbing Database.
Side projects[]
The Fandub Database has spawned a few side projects inspired by the contents of the wiki. Owned by the same creator, the Dubbing Databse was created before the wiki came out. There is also a Lost Fandub Wiki, which was created by HT2023SpongeBob.
