The Wiki Wiki

The Dubbing Database (DubDB or D.D.B. for short) is a wiki hosted on Fandom dedicated to offering information about foreign dubs of TV shows, films, and (rarely) video games. The purpose of it was to create a convenient place for people who wanted to know how something was adapted in a language, while other sites either don't cover the topic or don't go into depth about it.

Outside of stating who voices who, the wiki also tackles air dates (when relevant), localized text, and entire pages on both characters and songs that provide lyrics for each dub.

It has changed drastically over time and eventually gained nearly 60,000 articles and an active community of dub enthusiasts.

History[]

The wiki was originally founded under the name International Entertainment Project (or I.E.P.) on July 26, 2015 by BovineBonita (better known by her current Fandom name, CrypticalFiery, and originally under the name PaletteReviews). The first page created was of the Albanian My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic dub by “Jess” Discographic. Although the purpose of the wiki had always been about dubbing, the main goal was to tackle any international versions of a piece of media, which included subtitled versions and the like. By December 2016, the wiki's staff had comprised of the users Liggliluff, MrLazarV, Ballwa44, Sembarang-Nama, BackyardigansKaibigan, MarshallsiAnjingBomba, and PascalTopia. The user Liggliluff would specifically help out immensely with the wiki's code a month after it was created, gradually making the design look more unique than others. This user would later quit the wiki, and stop associating with it, for personal reasons.

At one point, Collinsmbo94, BDTYA, PenBird2000, and SomeGoomba533 were content moderators, but were soon demoted. Nick mick was also appointed as a content moderator.

On March 19, 2021, the wiki was hacked through BovineBonita's previous account, PaletteReviews, by an unidentified group of users. On March 21, it was suddenly announced that the wiki would move to Miraheze due to this.[1] After much backlash, and an inability to replicate the wiki's code properly, the decision was later cancelled, and the Miraheze version was locked. This wouldn't be the last time the staff experimented with Miraheze though: upon much housekeeping, the admins had agreed that the format of the episode lists was not working out well, and on April 28, WoeisWingbat announced that the old episode lists were to move temporarily to the TV Episodes Wiki, in order for a new episode list format to take change.[2]

On May 7, 2021, the wiki's staff would make a drastic change. Users WoeisWingbat, Joseph551, Katzenbär (who does not edit much), AniShalev, PoopTVonFandom, and GiggleishSakamoto were appointed as admins, with Marshall retaining his previous status. User Muppetman03 would become a content moderator, and Nick mick retained his status.

Plans for a rebrand were in the works. On July 27, 2021, WoeisWingbat would announce that the name of the wiki was to change, in order for the point of the wiki to be more clear, and for the wiki to be easily searchable. A choice was given between what is now the finalized name, and the alternative "Dubpedia".[3] On July 28, the wiki was renamed to The Dubbing Database.[4] It was agreed by many that the point of the wiki was always about dubs, so from this point on, any pages that were not about dubs or what made them were soon deleted, and are still in the progress of being deleted.

On July 26, 2025, user WoeisWingbat posted a blog, celebrating the wiki's 10th anniversary.[5]

Side projects[]

The Dubbing Database has spawned a few side projects inspired by the contents of the wiki. Owned by the same creator, the Lost Dubbing Wiki was created in order to go more in-depth about which dubs currently cannot be found online and why, as the DubDB does not allow for talks about dubs being lost on pages, since it is not professional. There is also the Fanmade Dubs wiki, a fanon wiki about dubs.

A Spanish-language version of the DubDB was created, called the D.E.I. It has not rebranded to fit the new theme of the DubDB.

Talks about a new spin-off wiki that discusses international media other than dubs was announced by WoeisWingbat on September 5, 2021.[6]
