Miraheze also know as Miraheze Meta is an open source project that offers free MediaWiki hosting for everyone. Instead of advertisements, it relies on community crowdfunding.
History[]
Miraheze was founded in July 2015 by John Lewis and Ferran Tufan, officially going live on August 2015.
In mid-November 2022, an outage caused about 1,400 wikis to go down.[1]
In June 2023, Miraheze was planned to close down on October 1, 2023, due to the financial situation, long term sustainability problems, and recent events such as the Qualitipedia situation. However, the plan was later changed and the wiki farm decided to rebuild their reputation.
Company[]
Miraheze Limited is owned by the WikiTide Foundation, a non-profit, 501(c)(3) tax-exempt public charity and organization based in Idaho, United States. It was previously registered in the United Kingdom, and was based in Worksop. A new organization was incorporated in Illinois, in which the file number was 74146392. The company will be transferred to the new organization.
