The Minecraft Discontinued Features Wiki is a wiki dedicated to covering Minecraft features that were obtainable in previous versions of Minecraft but are no longer obtainable. All these features can update to later versions as well, allowing the collection of many discontinued features in a museum.
The wiki was founded in May 2020. The wiki has its own dedicated Discord for discussion with over 1,500 members and holds a monthly "Wiki Marathon Extravaganza Day of Awesomeness" (WMEDA). WMEDA started in September 2020. The wiki originally only covered the Java Edition, but namespaces to cover Bedrock and Legacy Console editions were added in October 2021. The wiki was originally hosted on Miraheze but moved to wiki.gg in July 2023.
History[]
The idea of starting the wiki begun on PuffingFish HQ's Discord when bluecrab2 asked about creating it May 5, 2020. The idea quickly got some support from Bayugoon and others. The request to create a wiki was sent not too long after and it was approved. The first page to be created after the Main Page was Bedrock (now moved to "Java Edition:Bedrock (Item)"). Following bedrock was the green shrub page by Bayugoon and then the silk touch shears page. The wiki logo was created June 23, 2020 and was chosen via ranked poll.
The beginning of the wiki was all discussed on the Puffingfish HQ Discord as discoveries were be created rapidly. Discussion started on the #unobtained-discussion channel and then after growing it got it's own channel #wiki on July 31, 2020. The wiki grew large enough that coordination became difficult in the two channels and was resulting in lots of spam unrelated to discussion about PuffingFish HQ. Bayugoon created a straw poll about creating a new Discord for the wiki on September 27 and it won yes near unanimously. The wiki Discord was created September 30 and the first member, Freedom_MC joined October 1 by finding the link on the wiki before it had been released in the Discord.
WMEDA was coined and organized by Sl1mJ1m, at the time the second-most prolific wiki editor. Sl1mJ1m first came up with WMEDA on September 9, 2020 and was first held on September 12, 2020. WMEDA has been held on a weekend each month since. WMEDA 1 was held on PuffingFish's Discord voice chat. WMEDA 1 was a great success and was the beginning of the tradition of association with the puffing squat emoji. WMEDA 2 was also held on PuffingFish's Discord although the Wiki Discord existed at that time. It had begun advertising on Puff's Discord before the Wiki Discord had been created. WMEDA 2 was held on October 10, 2020 and broke the record for length and number of edits. WMEDA 3 was held on November 14, 2020 and was the first to be held on the wiki discord. WMEDAs have continued an unbroken monthly streak to the present.
In August 2021, wiki user and administrator Left-Eye created the custom wiki skin that is still in use with modifications.
The Bedrock Minecraft Discontinued Features Wiki on Miraheze[1] originally created and run by GTBOT was deprecated and was pushed over to the Java Edition (now main wiki) in October 2021. The Bedrock and Legacy Console editions were given separate namespaces but consolidated to the same website.
In June 2023, the wiki migrated from its Miraheze host to wiki.gg. The move was made in reaction to the announcement that Miraheze would be shutting down, although this announcement was later retracted. The migration sped up loading times for the wiki significantly.
